Originally from Holland, Fokelien and her family moved to the UK in 1990.
Living near the sea in Lowestoft with fantastic walks around them, they decide to compliment their family with the love of a dog. Dascha, a beautiful German Shepherd pup came from Police Training Kennels and proved very easy to train and she loved every minute of it.
Their love of dogs started as children, both Fokelien and her husband Tjaako grew up with dogs. Fokelien had a handsome Golden Labrador while her husband had the most obedient and loving German Shepherd. Throughout their marriage they have had several dogs the first Dascha then Jack, Lady and Tim then more dogs ranging from German Shepherds to Rottweilers.
In 2005, the family moved to the tranquil area of Southam. Their property has the most wonderful
gardens that back onto huge fields which are prefect for dog walking. This time, they decided that it wouldn’t be fair to home a dog as they like to travel and take various holidays even though their three children begged for a dog. But how can they still get the companionship from a dog in the family home without owning one? Then Fokelien heard about Pet Carers, she gave them a call and since then she has boarded numerous dogs of various breeds and now has her regular visitors.
Fokelien said “We have a fantastic time with all the dogs we help look after. It is very rewarding and you get to know the different breeds with different characters.” She continued, “We get very attached to our guest dogs and we make pictures of all the dogs we have to stay. The house seems very empty once they have gone back to their own home but we have never regretted one moment of it.”
